Although the season is coming to an end, we have just finished a set of wheels that are perfect for the current conditions.

We received an order for a wheel build featuring a combination that is perfect for the current season.

We used Velocity A23 rims, which are tubeless-ready, installed with a Velotape Tubeless Kit, and paired them with IRC's Siura CX tires. For the hubs, we chose Chris King R45s, laced with Philwood plain gauge spokes in a 28H, 3-cross pattern to create a wheelset capable of withstanding tough racing conditions. Thanks to the tubeless setup, they are also quite lightweight; the front weighs in at 740g and the rear at 875g (approx. 1615g total). Although the CX season is nearing its end, this is a setup that makes me look forward to putting it into action.

By the way, there were various exhibitions held around Nagoya today, and I was able to take a look at IRC's new tires.

They feature a tread pattern designed for mud, and are, of course, tubeless-compatible. Production began at the factory this week, so they might arrive by early February. It would be a great idea to mix and match them with existing patterns for different front and rear setups. Since they can be run at pressures as low as about 1.8 bar, they should be well-suited for racing. While they are slightly heavier than tubulars, they are still remarkably light. For those who don't want to go through the trouble of building tubular wheels, using tubeless-ready wheels with clinchers for daily riding is a great option!

I’ve built up a tubeless wheelset for myself as well, so I’m looking forward to giving it a try!
