On the "Overhaul," a Rainy Season Tradition

Long time no see.
This is Yuya.

The Japanese rainy season, Tsuyu. It’s a gloomy time for us cyclists as well. Especially recently, there have been many disasters caused by heavy rain. Gifu Prefecture, where we often go to play, has suffered significant damage, MTB trails have experienced landslides, and fish have been washed away in the rivers where we go fishing; it’s a situation that hits close to home.

While we appreciate the rain in part because the water cycle maintains a rich ecosystem, we do wish it would go a bit easier on us.

Overhauls for the off-season

Now, about this rainy season.
It is customary for us at Circles to suggest refreshing your bike with an overhaul during the rainy season when riding is difficult, but you all know this so well that we received so many overhaul requests that we didn’t even have time to send out an announcement. Thank you so much.

Please allow us to pause overhaul orders

This year, due to the influence of COVID-19, it seems that many people are considering getting back into cycling, and the number of bikes waiting for service at Circles has reached an unprecedented level.

Since our overhauls involve disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling every single part, as well as putting the bike back together, we usually require a three-week turnaround time. To provide the quality you deserve, we have determined that maintaining this schedule would be difficult. Therefore, we regret to inform you that we will be suspending all new overhaul requests until August 21st.

We are truly sorry we cannot meet your requests. We made this decision because we feel it would be unfair to hold onto your bike for over a month, preventing you from using it for your commute after the rainy season, weekend plans, or your summer holidays.

We apologize to those who were planning an overhaul for their beloved bike and appreciate your understanding.
If you are comfortable with a longer turnaround time, we are of course happy to discuss it.

An overhaul is more than just a cleaning

Receiving overhaul requests means you want to ride again or that your bike has been well-used. Moreover, it reflects the very value we hold dear: continuing to use what we already have rather than buying something new. It makes us very happy.

An overhaul is one of my favorite tasks and consultations because I get to hear how you have been using your bike, how you want to use it in the future, and any troubles you've had with it. Hearing your desire and commitment to "taking good care of this bike" is truly heartwarming. I will do my best so we can start accepting them again, and I look forward to your continued support.

New bike purchases, parts replacements, and repairs are accepted as usual

Consultations for new bikes, standard part replacements, and accessory installations are always welcome. The staff and I would be delighted if you would please make a reservation before coming to the store!

Let’s enjoy the summer that has just begun to the fullest!!
