The weekend was hit by heavy snow, mainly in the Kanto region.
Amidst that, I headed to Odaiba for Cyclo-cross Tokyo.
The course, which combined the sandy beach zone and the forest zone of the seaside park, was compact but condensed with every element, making it a challenging ride. With the blizzard adding to the difficulty, I expected it to be a very tough race, but... a storm warning was issued, and unfortunately, the C1 race was canceled. It couldn't be helped. Shaking it off, I cheered with all my might for the C2 race, which managed to start even though the race time was shortened at the last minute!
The Hunter SimWorks CX Team's ball of energy struggled with the unfamiliar snowy race but finished safely. I think it was a good experience. Having secured his place in C2 at Katsuragawa, I am sure he will promise even greater leaps next season, so please give him your support. That said, the C2 race was full of familiar faces like Mr. Bonsai and Mr. EFFECT Notch, so it was exciting for us spectators as well!
We left with a promise to have a rematch next season for the head-to-head battle with Sergeant NB of Blue Lug that couldn't happen due to the C1 cancellation.
I was a bit down on the drive back to Nagoya on the snow-covered Tomei Expressway because I couldn't race, but the next day, big news arrived that blew those feelings away.
Also at Sanuki CX, where snow was still scattering on the course, 4 members from Circles Racing Club and Hunter/SimWorks CX Team were entered, and they hit the podium in both C4 and C3! I was as happy as if it were my own success. Congratulations, Kassan & Go-san!
It was a weekend of ups and downs, what with not being able to race due to the blizzard on the expedition east and everyone achieving wonderful results on the expedition west. But being able to feel frustration or joy like this is another reason why I'm glad I'm racing.
This weekend is Hirata CX. We are planning to participate with a large group, so if you are interested, why not come and join us?
