The mornings have become much cooler, and the nights are getting darker earlier. It's already October. It’s starting to feel like autumn, to the point where I wonder what that intensely hot summer was even about. I'm getting tired of there being more typhoons than in typical years. I truly hope there is no further damage.
Today, I'm happy to announce that we will be hosting a guest at HEDGEHOG DINER for the first time in a while.
I've had a few opportunities to visit Kamakura over the past several years, and there is one shop I always make sure to visit every time I go. It's Kakan, an authentic mapo tofu specialty shop located in "Kajiwara," an area a little ways away from the typical tourist spots.
Across from the shop is a famous Western-style confectionery store called "POMPONCAKES," making it a very appealing area. When a friend in Kamakura gave me a shop card featuring a hanafuda-themed design, I was convinced it had to be a great place and went there right away. The mapo tofu I ate there was truly delicious, and the friends I went with and I were raving about it for the longest time. Since then, it’s become a place I have to visit every time I go to Kamakura. Their boiled dumplings, made with wrappers from Hoeido Seimen, are also exquisite.

Through a strange twist of fate, I connected with the folks at "Kakan," and we were able to make it happen for them to have a pop-up at HEDGEHOG DINER. Pop-ups from other shops are always a stimulating and great opportunity for HEDGEHOG, so we’re the most excited of all, but I really want many of our friends in Nagoya to taste their food, too. It makes me so happy to see new connections being made and more people wanting to go visit different regions again.
Just looking at the pictures, you know it’s delicious, but I really want you to come to the venue and taste how good it is for yourself. It’s seriously amazing. On the day, they are planning to bring not just their mapo tofu, but other menu items that go great with drinks, so please look forward to it.
Gather at HEDGEHOG for a Friday night on October 19th.
