The VR90 is the MTB version of the well-known Giro lace-up cycling shoe, the EMPIRE. We’ve just received the limited colorway, Lava Reflective.
When it comes to the Empire, people always look forward to their seasonal limited color releases—like the camouflage models released in the early MTB versions—but this time, it arrives in a special camouflage color inspired by lava lamps, the interior lighting fixtures.
Most modern cycling shoes use buckles or wire systems, but the Empire has established its position as a revival of the classic lace-up type. Many people often shy away from lace-ups due to the difficulty of putting them on and taking them off, or concerns about compatibility with the upper material. However, they are trouble-free, lightweight, and above all, they provide an excellent fit because they can be tightened uniformly across the entire foot, without the fixed adjustment increments of buckles. By using a microfiber upper material optimized for this, they fit the foot without any stress.
The sole uses Vibram, which not only enhances grip, but the Easton EC90 sole ensures that pedaling power is transmitted without loss. It is a pair that will prove its worth in any situation, including cyclocross racing, trail riding, and dirt touring.
