[BIKE of the WEEK] VELO ORANGE Polyvalent Diamond Circles Original Complete Bike

VELO ORANGE believes that bikes should bring people smiles. They also believe that a good bike is one that offers comfort, practicality, and fun.

The “VELO ORANGE Polyvalent Diamond” we're introducing this time is a bike that truly embodies that VELO ORANGE philosophy.

Velo Orange makes parts and frames that cherish the beauty of classic touring bikes and randonneurs while bringing in modern technology and standards.

This Polyvalent Diamond is a perfect example: it has a classic French-style bent front fork reminiscent of bikes from the 1980s–1990s, yet adopts modern standards like disc brakes and front and rear thru-axles, striking a balance between looks and function.

“Polyvalent” is French for “multi-purpose” or “versatile.”

Depending on the parts you build it with, it can become a tough “tourer,” an everyday “commuter” (for work or school), a “randonneur” you can ride comfortably all day, or a “gravel bike” that charges through rough terrain.

With this outstanding versatility, it's designed to flexibly change shape to suit the rider's purpose.

“A bike isn't a tool for competing — it's a tool for enriching your life”

Lots of people ride race bikes even though they don't actually race. The theme that VELO ORANGE founder Igor Shteynbuk returns to again and again is the idea that “a bike isn't a tool for competing, but a tool for enriching your life.”

He advocates “Happy Riding,” which values not just going fast but “comfort, practicality, and fun,” and the frames he creates are by no means just about looks.

The slightly steep head angle and the generously bent front fork keep the handling steady and stable even with a load on the front, and the top tube has a subtly oval shape designed to soften vertical vibration.

Plenty of mounting eyelets make it easy to add fenders, racks and carriers, so beyond everyday use it's ready for camp touring and adventure rides, too.

VELO ORANGE values the idea of keeping old bikes in use for a long time, but it also places importance on updating only what needs updating and balancing looks with function.

They focus on the everyday experiences you have on the bike, and care more about “how much fun it is to ride” than “how fast it is.”

“Do-It-All Bike”

Founded in 2006, VELO ORANGE started out by reproducing classic parts that had become hard to find, and has since gone on to create all kinds of things, from bike frames to components and accessories.

Every one of them feels somehow nostalgic and warm, with a relaxed, easygoing sense of freedom.

If what you're after isn't “speed” but a way to “make everyday life more fun and fulfilling,” or simply “one bike that does it all,” this Polyvalent may be the one to make that wish come true.

This bike is available for test rides in the shop, so feel free to ask.
