Cross is coming!! The season is finally upon us. This is the time of year when the excitement of cyclocross riders across the country builds as races begin to take place in various locations.
Whether you are challenging yourself for the first time this year, aiming for a higher category than last year, or are determined to stand on the national stage this season, here is an introduction to the SportCrafters trainer that you will want to have to make the coming season even more fulfilling.
SportCrafters, a company that continues to produce high-quality products in Indiana, USA, has a unique lineup that uses their proprietary ARC Power Modulation Technology. The most unique of these SportCrafters products, used by athletes and cyclists around the world, is the Omnium Trainer.
The main highlight of this Omnium is that it allows for high-load training, similar to a stationary trainer, while keeping tire wear to an absolute minimum.
Many stationary trainer users often have a separate wheel with a tire dedicated to rollers, but that is no longer necessary. You can start training immediately with your usual setup, or even your race setup. Therefore, many cyclists use the Omnium at race venues for pre-race warm-ups in road racing, cyclocross, triathlons, and more.
SportCrafters' patented ARC Power Modulation Technology is a system that generates high resistance as powerful magnets inside the drum move in response to your input. With this system, the harder you pedal, the higher the resistance generated, allowing the rider to get a feeling closer to actual riding.
Unlike three-drum rollers, you remove the front wheel and secure the fork, so you can concentrate on your training or warm-up with a sense of stability. Regarding noise, while SportCrafters does not specifically advertise that the Omnium is quiet, I think it is quite quiet when used with road tires. (It is a bit noisy with knobby tires, but it is at a level that is not a problem if you assume outdoor use for pre-race warm-ups.)
And, another excellent point is its compactness. It can be folded up small to fit into a dedicated carry bag or hard case, and with a weight of only about 6.2kg, it is perfect for transport from your home bedroom to airplanes, tour buses, or passenger cars. Of course, no tools are required for setup.
*By the way, the FG540 hybrid roller released by MINOURA has a catalog weight of 10kg, but compared to that, the Omnium trainer's overwhelming lightness, ease of transport, and ease of setup make it a very effective item, especially for use at race sites like cyclocross.
Good news for those considering getting a trainer in time for the coming cyclocross season.
