I remember a while back when I went to "Sosaku Izakaya Engiya" in Kani City, Gifu Prefecture, with Early Birds owner Keita.
JUS & Keita: "Wow, that was delicious! We'll definitely ride out here with everyone next time!"
Engiya Owner: "No, no! Don't worry about it! You don't have to come all this way!" (Laughs)
JUS & Keita: "Oh come on, we're definitely coming back!" (Laughs)
Engiya Owner: "It's fine. I'll just go there instead! Keita, let me borrow your kitchen!!"
JUS & Keita: "Wait! Wouldn't that be amazing? Seriously, please come! Let's do it!"
I remember having that conversation.
A few months after that day... Guess what!!!
It has been decided that Engiya will be taking over Hedgehog Diner, the night-time face of Early Birds!!
At Ride Alive 2015, they blew us away by grilling wild boar on a drum-can grill. At the Gourmet Century Ride 2016, they teamed up with Keita & Chris DiMinno to fill the riders' stomachs before the ride. And at the still-fresh Ride Alive 2016, they knocked everyone out with their amazing "Obanzai" (Kyoto-style home cooking) and sake under the name "Obanzai-ya Engiya"!!
Keiji "Katchan" Hayashi, the owner of the famous "Sosaku Izakaya Engiya" in Kani City, Gifu, will be hijacking the Hedgehog Diner kitchen to serve up delicious sake, fresh-caught sashimi, and obanzai!!
