Beyond in-store consultations, we’ve recently been receiving many inquiries via email and phone. We really want people all over Japan to ride wheels hand-built by Circles mechanics! That’s why we offer GORILLA SPUN CUSTOM WHEELS—a service where we propose wheel builds based on the rims, hubs, and spokes we recommend, tailored to your intended use and vision.
For this order, the customer chose the H PLUS SON / AT-25 rim. This road rim, with a shape reminiscent of semi-aero rims from the past, features a 25mm rim height and an edgy cross-section. At a price point under 10,000 yen per rim, it offers an excellent balance of weight, strength, and precision.
The customer selected the Velocity / Road Hub, finishing the build with a silver hub paired with black rims and black spokes—a combination only possible with a custom build.
Though not widely known, the Velocity Road Hub is a great choice for those who want something a step above Shimano 105 or Tiagra, but are working within a limited budget. The hub’s beautifully finished silver color is particularly recommended for those wanting to build a bike with a classic aesthetic using current components. It’s also a nice bonus that the hub comes with a quick-release skewer, which Velocity sells separately.
This build used plain gauge spokes with alloy nipples, but if you prioritize strength, we recommend brass nipples, and if you want to shave off some weight, we suggest double-butted spokes with alloy nipples. Of course, you are welcome to choose components outside of these combinations, and Gorilla Spun is also happy to build wheels using hubs you already own. Our current lead time is one week from the time we have all parts in stock until we ship them to you.
