Shige's 2016 Motorcycle Year-in-Review.

There's not much left of this year. By this time next week, we’ll have already welcomed the New Year, but it still hasn't quite sunk in yet. As for me, I'm currently distracted, staring at maps in preparation for my year-end adventure to Izu. Of course, it hasn't been all play. To reflect on this year that went by in a flash, and as proof that I actually get things done once in a while, I’d like to introduce my personal top three bikes that headed out from Circles this year.

Knowing that so many wonderful bicycles are being thoroughly enjoyed here in Nagoya makes me both happy and proud, and when I stop to think about it, I’m truly amazed. Let’s dive right in.

BREADWINNER CYCLES / Continental

Portland, Oregon-based Breadwinner is gaining fans at a breakneck pace. The Continental, which we also unveiled as their show bike at this year's NAHBS, is the very bike that sparked the launch of Breadwinner. It is a modern sportif that places weight on enjoying the fundamental essence of road riding: experiencing the suffering and the joy. With enough clearance to accommodate fenders, this road frame is a bike you'll want to stay in the saddle of forever, regardless of the road surface—pavement or light gravel—or the distance. Thankfully, we have a connection for next year's show bike as well, and I’m excited to see what they do next.

DeSalvo Custom Cycles / Ti Road

This is a titanium road bike crafted by Mike DeSalvo, an UBI instructor, independent business owner, and a world-class TIG welder who commands respect from everyone. This is the metal that those who have logged endless miles eventually aspire to. That said, titanium is a material that will bite you if you don't treat it with respect, so caution is required. If you are considering a custom titanium frame from an independent builder, I can recommend Mike with complete confidence. For the customer who entrusted everything to him with the wish for a bike that would make them want to pedal even further, I am proud to say that it came together perfectly, right down to the assembly. It is a supreme machine that only those with the patience to wait can truly know.

Seven Cycles / Axiom SL

Finally, we have the Seven Cycles Axiom SL, a timeless masterpiece ordered by Paisen. With genuine roots in Boston, the birthplace of American culture, and their long-cultivated proprietary fitting method developed through building over 2,000 custom bikes a year (most of which are fully custom), they make it possible to create a bike that rides exactly as you imagined. Beyond its weight, the ease of handling that comes from its stable geometry, and the responsiveness when you put the power down, this is a dream bike that delivers satisfaction far beyond simple safety and stability.

Many other bikes headed off to new homes besides these, and each one is packed with the owner's thoughts and feelings—no two are the same. I am grateful to be able to work every day while interacting with such a variety of bicycles and people! Regardless of weight or speed, I just want everyone, from all walks of life, to get on a bike and have it bring a smile to their face. The world you see from there may look different for everyone, but I hope to help with that journey as much as I can!

Please take care of yourselves and have a wonderful New Year. Tomorrow is our last day of business for the year. We look forward to seeing you all!

Best wishes for the new year!!
