That is why we carry handlebar tape like this.
Dipell “Competition Leather Bar Tape” ¥10,500 (plus tax)
We decided to take the plunge and stock it.
When it comes to leather bar tape, BROOKS and SimRoll are our staples here at Circles. While they certainly aren’t cheap, the unique texture of leather and the way it changes as you break it in provide a sense of superiority for the rider. The Dipell Competition Bar Tape introduced here is priced even higher, but as the name suggests, it is leather bar tape designed for racing and hard riding.
First, when you pick it up, you notice a reliable sense of grip, and despite being leather, it allows for a very smooth wrap without any ridges. By using specially tanned leather, it achieves both durability and grip. A special dyeing process that penetrates the leather allows the material to breathe naturally, making it resistant to fading and ensuring a dry, comfortable grip even during long rides.
And there is a secret to its cross-section that enables such a smooth, ridge-free wrap.
With a "dual-tapering system"—where one side has a short curl and the other a long, thin taper—you can wrap the tape perfectly smooth, with no concern that the edges will peel up during intense riding. Naturally, as it is made from a single piece of leather, it is both lightweight and highly durable. And, of course, you can re-wrap it as many times as you like, provided it doesn't tear.
It defies the conventional concept of leather bar tape as being purely for classic aesthetics, instead offering a product that can be used for racing and hard riding. Please give it a try the next time you replace your bar tape. Of course, requests for specific staff members to do the wrapping are also more than welcome.
