Regarding consumables

The cold days continue, don't they?

It's been snowing in Nagoya since this morning, too.

I'm sure many cyclists get excited when they see snow,

but I imagine some of you find it a hassle to ride.

That's understandable; it is cold, after all.

During this time of year when you have fewer opportunities to ride, why not

take a moment to think about maintaining your bicycle?

Here is a bicycle that was recently brought in for an overhaul.

Take a look at the front chainring.

The one in the front is brand new, and the one in the back has been ridden for about five years.

It's quite worn down. To say it in the Nagoya dialect, it's "tokkin-tokkin" (sharp/pointed).

Most people realize that tires and brake pads are consumables,

but chainrings and rear sprockets are consumables, too.

The left shows a worn-out rear sprocket.

The 3rd and 4th gears from the low side (the large gears) are particularly worn down.

If you use them for a long time, the friction from the chain will gradually wear them down.

And, worn-out chainrings and rear sprockets have a major impact on shifting performance.

If you've felt like your shifting hasn't been right lately, you might want to start by checking these.

If you bring it to Circles, we'll be happy to check it for you.

Many smart folks decide to get their overhauls done during this cold season when riding opportunities decrease,

so combined with assembly work, our pit is surprisingly busy for this time of year.

But, there is still time.

If you bring it in now, you'll be able to ride a bike that has been

revived to its best condition just in time for the incredibly pleasant spring season.

If you have any other concerns at all, please bring it by anytime.

There might be other parts that are worn out, too.
