Various colored rims – SimWorks by Velocity Standalone 001 Rim

Good news from us at SimWorks!

We have teamed up with Velocity, the American rim manufacturer we’ve been working with for so long it feels like we’ve known them forever, to create a new line of rims. The SimWorks by Velocity “Standalone 001 Rim” has officially been released.

30mm wide, tough for touring, tubeless compatible, with eyelets, made in the USA

Born from the Cliffhanger—one of the most popular rims here at Circles for MTB and adventure bikes—this new rim features a toughness that won’t flinch, even when navigating rough terrain on gravel bikes or during adventure touring. While the SimWorks release covers the details on the eyelets, we at Circles would like to focus on these colored rims, which are a rare sight these days.

If the world only had black and white shoes...

If you’re trying to win a race, a black carbon rim seems like the best choice for performance. However, when building a bike at Circles that you can love and ride for a long time, color variety is essential.

There was a time when things were full of color, but as efficiency and business became the primary focus, the number of color options has steadily dwindled. Aside from makers like Chris King who support individual preferences, color variety has managed to stay alive thanks to the passion of big manufacturers, such as with the Shimano GRX Silver.

In this climate, the newly released Standalone 001 comes in four colors. In addition to black and silver, the lineup includes a bluish-gray and an olive.

We are particularly interested in the olive color. It’s not painted, but anodized, and its deep, elegant green seems like it would pair perfectly with many neutral-toned bikes. We’re looking forward to that feeling of a bike “sprouting” from the rims—something we haven’t felt in a long time. This is yet another challenge from SimWorks to bike mechanics, following their spokes and pedals.
