TOMII CYCLES, a custom frame builder based in Austin, Texas / TOMII CYCLES. The builder, Nao Tomii—known as Nao—has an unconventional career path: he studied fine arts in the U.S., worked as a sculptor and three-dimensional artist in Boston, Massachusetts, and later began frame building.

The bicycles he creates possess a delicate, nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of Native American jewelry, yet they are fused with a cutting-edge aesthetic. Born from his motto of crafting bikes that are a joy to ride, each creation exudes a truly unique presence.

The frame set for TOMII CYCLES’ signature model, The Fat Canvas, is arguably the crowning achievement of his creations.

The Fat Canvas embodies the “Fast yet durable through any terrain” concept—meaning it’s not just fast, but capable of handling any road surface.

Maximum tire clearance is 700x48c and 650x55B. While this might seem on the narrow side by today’s tire clearance standards, when viewed through Nao’s lens of “Fast Yet Durable,” it strikes the perfect balance between speed and all-terrain capability.

As he says, “It’s hot in Austin all year round during the day, so my daily routine is usually to wake up early, head out, ride the local gravel trails, and then get to work.” The Fat Canvas is the result of his relentless riding, seamlessly covering both the streets of Austin and the gravel trails.

While Nao’s frames are often judged by their looks, he’s also meticulous about the tubing, so this is a bike that’s lightweight and a joy to ride.

It comes with a removable custom rack and bag, making it perfect for wandering around on day rides.The roll-top bag offers adjustable capacity. It’s the perfect size for picking up coffee beans after a ride or handling extra luggage on the go, with a capacity ranging from 2.0L to 3.3L.

In addition to the head badge and cactus inlay, it features engravings—arguably his signature touch—and every bolt is heat-treated, giving each one a unique character.
