Founder Rick Case dropped a flashlight into the water during his hobby of night fishing when he was a student at the University of Colorado. This led to the development and sale of a "headband" to attach a flashlight to the head, and the history of NITE IZE began.
In 2007, "Figure 9", which can be fixed without tying a rope, and in 2008, "Esbiner", which has an S-shaped opening and closing opening (gate) on both sides, won the Editor's Choice Award from the US "BackPacker" magazine.
