Mountain Safety Research (MSR) is a manufacturer of mountaineering equipment in Seattle, Washington, USA.
Founded in 1969 by Larry Penberthy to research the safety and reliability of climbing equipment, the first ice ax using an aluminum shaft, the "Eagle Ice Ax", was the first separate type for mountaineering. Developed stoves such as the Model 9, and released in 1973, the Mountain Tent has been used for many years in expedition mountaineering and rescue activities. It is one of the world's leading outdoor gear manufacturers that my family has purchased.
