The "Gourmet Century Ride Asuke" will finally be held this coming weekend.
Many people from all over Japan and abroad will be gathering.
Of course, it’s not just people gathering, but also plenty of bicycles,
and personally, one of the things I look forward to is seeing what kind of bikes everyone is riding.
I am excited to meet the bikes that are filled with all of your "feelings."
Well then, this time, I'd like to talk a little about overhauls.
I have introduced overhauls on the blog and elsewhere several times in the past,
but it is not simply a matter of "just cleaning it and replacing consumable parts."
The request this time was for an old road bike that was gifted to the client by their father 35 years ago.
It seems it hadn't been ridden for a long time and had been sleeping in a warehouse.
"I want you to somehow make this rideable again."
That was the request.
First, I took it all apart to check the degree of deterioration and movement of each part.
The inside of the frame was in this state.
So the rims weren't silver, but polished...
The old MAVIC wheels were heavily soiled, but the condition of the spokes, nipples, and rims was good, so after thoroughly polishing them, truing the wheels, adjusting the spoke tension, and regreasing the hubs, they were spectacularly revived!
There are plenty of parts that can still be used if you just clean off the dirt properly.
The bearings in the hubs, headset, and bottom bracket were also in good condition, and after being properly greased, they began to rotate smoothly.
I thoroughly polished the other parts as well and assembled it to completion.
Of course, depending on the damage and degree of deterioration, there are always parts that must be replaced.
"Being able to ride safely."
That is the main prerequisite.
However, rather than replacing everything with new parts, I want to properly repair what can be repaired and make it usable again.
It is a natural and basic thing as a mechanic, but honestly, I feel like I had forgotten that a little.
The moment I saw the customer's smile when I delivered the bike, the "35 years of feelings" came across so strongly.
Mr./Ms. I, I look forward to the day you pass it on to your son!
That will require regular check-ups!
Please feel free to come by anytime!
It's June now, and the rainy season is just around the corner. Why not consider
an overhaul (from ¥16,000) for your own beloved bike that is filled with your "feelings"?
I look forward to your consultation.
