Pertex Shield Plus (PU Sosui) is a hydrophobic porous membrane of polyurethane (PU). The term "hydrophobic" refers to its ability to repel water, while the term "porous membrane" refers to the membrane's mesh-like structure with numerous microscopic pores (holes).
These microscopic pores are large enough to allow vapor to pass through, but not water, and Pertex Shield Plus is extremely moisture permeable because the vapor in the garment is dissipated directly from these pores.
Independent tests conducted by Yama to Michi Labo have shown that the temperature inside the garment does not rise easily during activities, and even when the outside air suddenly drops, the temperature inside the garment is maintained. It also outperforms Pertex Shield (PU Shinsui) in terms of durability, according to the manufacturer's published information.
