Description
Rain or shinE
This ultra-lightweight 3-layer jacket is ideal for hiking and fastpacking, with a double-zip for easy ventilation and lightweight and breathable properties that allow it to be used actively as a rain jacket as well as an active wear on sunny days.
Fabrics are ultrasonically welded to each other to avoid water seeping through the seams. Two types of materials are available: PU Sosui, made of Pertex Shield Pro, a PU hydrophobic porous membrane that constantly expels moisture from the body during action, and PU Shinsui, a PU hydrophilic non-porous membrane with an ultra-thin 7 denier outer fabric and excellent lightweight properties.
PU Sosui for comfort during activities
PU Sosui is made of Pertex Shield Pro, an ultra-lightweight waterproof material with excellent breathability.
The waterproof and breathable layer of Pertex Shield Pro is a porous membrane with numerous microscopic holes smaller than a water molecule, allowing uncomfortable moisture in the garment to be released directly to the outside, keeping the wearer comfortable at all times, even during activities.
This jacket offers excellent overall performance with a good balance of waterproofness, breathability, and light weight for comfortable activities in both rainy and sunny days.
Ultra lightweight PU Shinsui
The outer fabric of the Pertex Shield used in the PU Shinsui is made of ultra-thin 7 denier nylon, and despite its loose-fitting silhouette, it is one of the world's lightest 3-layer double-zip rain jackets at 133g in Size S. The PU Shinsui has a double-zip zipper for easy ventilation, and the PU Shinsui's waterproof, breathable, and lightweight construction makes it ideal for use in the rain.
Double zip for easy ventilation
The double zip, which can be opened and closed from the top and bottom for quick ventilation of moisture inside the garment, allows you to stay comfortable even in ever-changing mountain conditions, such as on a ridge line under strong winds after a strenuous hikE
Ultrasonic welding technology to prevent water ingress
Generally, seam tape is applied from the back to the seams of rainwear to prevent water from penetrating through the seams.
To solve this problem, the UL Rain Jacket is sewn using the latest ultrasonic welding technology, which uses ultrasonic waves to melt and weld fabric to fabric, thereby minimizing water penetration through the joints of the fabric as much as possiblE

Seam tape is applied on the reverse side not for waterproofing but to protect the welded area.
Loose fit with good ventilation
The body and neck are roomy so that heat and moisture from the body can ventilate efficiently during activities.
While most lightweight waterproof shells in the same weight class as the UL Rain Jacket have a fitted shape, the UL Rain Jacket is slightly heavier because it uses more fabric, but it is more ventilated and more comfortable to wear.
Details
The neck is designed to be roomy so that you can move your neck without stress when wearing it. The brim has a thick core to cut off rainwater.
The cuffs have elastic on the inside only. The hem is adjustable for fit with cord locks at the sides.
The double zipper is made of YKK No. 3 watertight VISLON with a glossy finish. Compared to conventional watertight zippers, it is lighter and easier to pull and can be opened and closed from the top and bottom.
How to adjust the hood
There is a cord stopper to adjust the hood on the inside of the hood fabriC Press the cord stopper and pull the cord under the hood to adjust the hood.
Pertex Shield Pro (PU Sosui)
Pertex Shield Pro (PU Sosui) is a hydrophobic porous membrane of polyurethane (PU). The term "hydrophobic" refers to its ability to repel water, while the term "porous membrane" refers to the membrane's mesh-like structure with numerous microscopic pores (holes).
These microscopic pores are large enough to allow vapor to pass through, but not water, and Pertex Shield Pro is extremely moisture permeable because the vapor in the garment is dissipated directly from these pores.
Independent tests conducted by Yama to Michi Labo have shown that the temperature inside the garment does not rise easily during activities, and even when the outside air suddenly drops, the temperature inside the garment is maintained. It also outperforms the Pertex Shield (PU Shinsui) in terms of durability, according to the manufacturer's published information.
The fabric surface has a grid of ripstop. The lining is a near-white color.

Caution
- This product is an ultralight waterproof shell made of ultra-thin waterproof breathable fabriC Please be careful not to damage or tear this product due to scuffing by rocks, snagging by trees, etC
- It is designed to be comfortable to wear when operating in relatively warm conditions and does not provide as much warmth as a typical heavy waterproof shell or winter hardshell. Please use caution when using this product under extreme conditions, such as wearing merino wool as an inner layer when stormy weather conditions are expected.
- Both PU Sosui and PU Shinsui require post-wear care to maximize their waterproof/breathable properties. The membrane, surface water repellent coating, and inner layer of the fabric will lose their performance if dirt, sweat, or sebum adheres to them. Please wash and dry them frequently according to the laundry label to keep them clean. Detergent specially designed for rainwear is also effectivE
- If the water repellent function of the fabric surface is damaged, the moisture permeability will also be lost. Regular use of a water repellent reinforcing agent is recommended.
- The Pertex Shield Pro used in PU Sosui is a very lightweight and thin porous material. Products containing Vaseline, insect repellent or ethanol (hair cream, cosmetics, sunscreen, insect repellent, etC) may stain the fabric and reduce its breathability. . Please refer to Yama-Michi JOURNALS "Yama-Michi Repair Department Communication #2: Cleaning Oil and Grease Stains from Rainwear" for information on how to remove them (similar stains caused by Vaseline, etC do not occur on PU Shinsui, which uses Pertex Shield with a different material structure).
